Amish Tripathi’s Shiva Trilogy: A Critical Study of Disability

The paper attempts to analyse Amish Tripathi’s Shiva Trilogy in the light of Critical Disability Theory, a diverse, interdisciplinary theoretical approach. The Trilogy portrays the Nagas of Panchavati as physically deformed and hideous, but kind and compassionate to the people in trouble. They are hated and stigmatised due to their deformities, yet remarkably, their marginalization does not affect their inherent compassionate nature. Their help is taken in war tactics and medicine-making for the welfare of society. They are juxtaposed against the able-bodied people of Meluha, who are perfectionists and rigid in their rules and laws. Still, Shiva, the protagonist, challenges illogical laws as a wise leader, considers them equals, and rallies society to accept them so they can live dignified lives. The paper explores Amish Tripathi’s stand on disability in the Trilogy to highlight the necessity of their assimilation for inclusive and dignified living.
