Impact of a Structured Bhagavad Gita Pedagogy Intervention on Dispositional Mindfulness
View through CrossRef
The Bhagavad Gita is a classical Indian philosophical text with a longstandinginfluence on ethical and psychological thought. Its emphasis on self-regulation, equanimity, andpresent-centred awareness conceptually aligns with contemporary constructs of mindfulness. However, quantitative empirical evaluations of structured Bhagavad Gita pedagogy ondispositional mindfulness remain limited. This controlled comparative study examined thepsychometric impact of a structured Bhagavad Gita pedagogy known as the ‘Rhythm of Krishna’intervention programme. We recruited seventy-two adults who completed the specificprogramme, alongside a control group of seventy-two adults with no prior formal exposure toBhagavad Gita programmes. We assessed the impact of the programme on mindfulness usingthe Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS). Our results demonstrate a statisticallysignificant difference in MAAS scores between the intervention and controlgroups, with higherdispositional mindfulness and reduced score variance observed among workshop participants. These findings suggest that structured Bhagavad Gita–based pedagogy may be associated withenhanced mindful attention and awareness in adults.
