Cardboard with 117 fantasy beads [2113 - 2229].

View through Europeana Collections
Cardboard with sewn-on sample beads numbers 2113 through 2229. The beads are dull and opaque. Bead 2222 is a typical "bamenda bead".Manufacture Fantasy beads belong to the group of wound beads, the so-called "lamp made beads". These beads are made by hand. Glass is wound around a knitting needle. The knitting needle is rolled between thumb and forefinger, so that the bead gets a nice round shape. Then the glass is decorated with coloured rods. If the bead is still liquid, the decoration melts into it, otherwise it solidifies halfway up the bead. The beads can be moulded into different shapes when the glass mass has not yet become completely solid.
