A simplified technique for guarding biopsy punch

View through CrossRef
Abstract A biopsy punch is an instrument used for taking biopsies of skin and oral lesions and harvesting punch grafts for treating vitiligo. Punching out the tissue up to an optimum depth with safety is the prime concern of the procedure. A number of punch guards are proposed for the safety and depth of the punch excision to avoid unnecessary tissue excision, which causes delayed healing, cosmetic defect, and injury to the underlying vital structure. However, the procurement of the punch guard is a little time-consuming and cumbersome during fixing the depth. Moreover, these punch guards are not easily adjustable. Here, we describe a simple and fast technique for guarding a biopsy punch with use of rubber or plastic cap of a syringe piston and cyanoacrylate glue.
