Chapter 5. Valence-changing morphology in San Dionisio Ocotepec Zapotec
View through CrossRef
San Dionisio Ocotepec Zapotec has a variety of relationships between related roots of different valence. There are synchronically equipollent relationships, as well as valence-increasing and valence-decreasing morphology. Valence-increasing morphology involves prefixation to the stem; valence-decreasing morphology involves the replacement of one stem-initial consonant with another. The productivity of such morphological processes is variable; the only clearly productive valence-changing morphology is the applicative.
