Hunter with Two Dogs in a Landscape

View through Harvard Museums
This verdure tapestry belongs to the same series as 1951.35. The tapestry shows a landscape with a hunter, carrying a dead rabbit on a pole, and two dogs. The background shows a picturesque castle. The tapestry has the same border design as 1951.35, showing flower garlands held aloft by winged putti. The tapestry is a Flemish product, most likely Oudenaarde. It should be noted, however, that although verdure tapestries originated in Oudenaarde, they were also produced in Antwerp, Brussels and other centers in the course of the 17th century. The tapestry can be dated to the first quarter of the 17th century.
