Use of Bacillus liqueniformis SMIA-2 For the Development of Environmentally Friendly Cleaning Products

View through CrossRef
Objective: The objective of this study is to present a review containing the main characteristics of Bacillus licheniformis SMIA-2 and its enzymes, to demonstrate its potential for industrial applications, specifically in the cleaning sector.   Theoretical Framework: This study was based on results obtained by the Laboratory of Industrial and Food Microbiology at the State University of Northern Rio de Janeiro Darcy Ribeiro (UENF), where Bacillus licheniformis SMIA-2 and its biotechnological applications are being studied.   Method: The adopted methodology consists of a literature review addressing the characteristics of Bacillus licheniformis SMIA-2 and its application in enzyme production for the development of cleaning products.   Results and Discussion: The results highlight the production of several enzymes by Bacillus licheniformis SMIA-2, such as proteases, amylases, and cellulases, with potential application in the detergent industry due to their thermophilic nature and stability under alkaline pH conditions.   Research Implications: This study gathers the main available information regarding enzyme production by Bacillus licheniformis SMIA-2, focusing on its applications in detergent formulations, thus serving as a reference and foundation for future research on the subject.   Originality/Value: The strain Bacillus licheniformis SMIA-2 is exclusively described and studied by the Laboratory of Industrial and Food Microbiology at the State University of Northern Rio de Janeiro (UENF). Its enzymatic production capabilities and characteristics demonstrate its potential for application in various biotechnological and industrial sectors.
