Quando Anatole France e Gilberto Freyre leram Pierre Loti

O que aproxima Anatole France de Gilberto Freyre? Além de escritores, ambos eram leitores do romancista francês Pierre Loti. No entanto, essas não todas as suas similaridades. Neste artigo, analiso a influência do Orientalismo na prosa ficcional de Pierre Loti sobre a produção intelectual de Gilberto Freyre e a crítica literária de Anatole France, e busco evidenciar como o discurso orientalista reproduzido pelos três autores em diferentes contextos (literário, analítico e sociológico) envolve a tecnologia da racialização e de hierarquização do gênero. Para tanto, fundamento meu trabalho no aporte teórico dos estudos de Said (2007), Yeğenoğlu (1998), Segato (2018, 2021) e Castro-Gómez (2019) sobre Orientalismo e tecnologias de gênero e racialização.
