Alkaline pulping of Acacia seyal

AbstractTwo Acacia seyal varieties (fistula and seyal) grown in Sudan were examined for their suitability for pulping and papermaking with different alkaline methods. Their physical, morphological and chemical characteristics and fibre dimensions are reported. Pulping was carried out with kraft‐AQ, soda‐AQ, modified alkaline sulphite‐AQ and ASAM methods. The kraft process without AQ was performed as reference. ASAM pulping gave the best results in yield, degree of delignification and strength properties. A kraft and an ASAM pulp were bleached with a TCF bleaching sequence to 88–89% ISO brightness. Copyright © 2004 Whurr Publishers Ltd
