A Literature Review on Cybersecurity in Nigeria

Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting computer systems and networks from unauthorized access, use, and modification, as well as the protection of data from being disclosed, corrupted, or destroyed. This definition highlights the two main goals of cybersecurity: preventing unauthorized access to systems and data from being compromised. Cyber security has become an increasingly prevalent issue in Nigeria in recent years, with an ever growing number of incidents being reported. This upward trend is due to a variety of factors, including the increasing use of technology and the internet, the rise of online banking and commerce, and the lack of adequate cyber security measures in place. Hence this study made a literature review on cybersecurity in Nigeria, it defines the concept of cybersecurity in Nigeria, and identify the goals of cyber security in Nigeria. This review adopted doctrinal analysis. Primary and secondary sources were relied upon and it included journals on cybersecurity and it challenges, it also includes articles, magazines, newspaper, and previous studies on cybersecurity in Nigeria. This review found that there are gaps in cyber security concept and challenges facing cybersecurity in Nigeria. This review concluded that there will always be a lacuna in the concept of cybersecurity in Nigeria, and it also considers the implications of cybersecurity issues in Nigeria, and makes recommendation for strengthening cybersecurity in Nigeria. This study recommended that Nigeria should create a forum on strengthening cybersecurity and make laws on cybersecurity in Nigeria.
