Educational Information Systems According to Data Standards and Data-Exchange Standards for the Bangkok Metropolitan Education Sandbox

This study conducts a needs assessment and designs an educational information system in accordance with data and data-exchange standards for the Bangkok Metropolitan Education Sandbox initiative. We evaluate the outcomes of use following the system’s implementation. We employed the research and development method, comprising three phases. Phase 1 included 487 teachers and educational personnel from the Bangkok Education Sandbox initiative. Data were collected using a questionnaire to assess existing conditions and requirements for a standardized information system; we also used meeting records from the administrative group and stakeholders involved in driving the initiative. We identified a strong need for standardized educational information systems that adhere to data and data-exchange standards in the Education Sandbox initiative. We also found a statistically significant difference between the desired and current states. Phase 2 focused on the system’s design and development. We developed the system by integrating and standardizing data from diverse sources, generating decision-support information, implementing tiered access to databases and information based on confidentiality levels, and creating a database to support operations within the Education Sandbox initiative. The system’s overall suitability was rated at the highest level (mean = 4.90, SD = 0.25). In Phase 3, an innovation acceptance questionnaire was distributed to 1,202 participants from the Education Sandbox initiative in Bangkok and a comparative group of 790 participants from other provinces. The educational information system received a high user satisfaction rating; a positive attitude and the system’s perceived ease of use were significant determinants of intention to use.
