Full length portrait of a small girl holding a tabby kitten up to her left shoulder. The kitten has a blue ribbon around it's neck, matching one in the girl's hair. She wears a pinky-red dress and over this a thin see-through spotted white garment. She also wears dark blue tights and brown leather shoes. There is an unravelled ball of blue wool on the floor. There is some shadow and the background is pale grey. In the border at right 'A.D' [?] in watercolour. There are also two examples of Edith Scannell's signature [?] on pieces of paper, glued to the mount in Melinex.
