Evaluation of Balance in Cerebral Palsy Children through Nintendo Wii

A cross sectional study was conducted to evaluate balance in children with cerebral palsy through Nintendo Wii in Dimensions and Iffat Anwar Medical Complex on 142 cerebral palsy children. 142 CP children aged between 5-15 years were included in the study through non-probability, convenience sampling. All types of CP (spastic, ataxic, dyskinetic, mixed and diplegic) with GMFCS level I and II below the weight of 150 kg of both genders were included in the study. Children with the history of epilepsy, who receive botulin toxin injection and have history of past 6 months’ surgery were excluded from the study. Informed consent had been taken from all the participant and guardians. Data was collected using outcome measure tools as pediatric balance scale and Nintendo Wii console. The data was analyzed through SPSS version 27. The result of our study showed that frequency and percent of pediatric balance scale level, 139 out of 142 were at medium risk fall (21-40) with percentage 97.9 percent. 3 out of 142 were at high-risk fall (0-20) showing 2.1 percentage. While for Nintendo Wii results of 142 children showed that number of rounds completed by patient. 25 patients with 5 rounds and 17.605%. 75 patients with 4 round and 52.816%. 26 patients with 3 rounds and 18.309%. 16 patients with 2 rounds and 11.267%. The study concluded that most of the CP children were at medium fall risk as well as Nintendo Wii is safest and easy to evaluate the balance in children of all types of cerebral palsy who are able to stand independently.
