Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes of Fresh Medical Graduates Toward Medicolegal Work

Objective: To assess the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of recent medical graduates regarding medicolegalwork in Lahore, Pakistan.Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 500 medical graduates (2019–2023)from public and private medical colleges in Lahore. Participants were selected through conveniencesampling. Data were collected using a structured, self-administered questionnaire comprising sections onknowledge, skills, and attitudes toward medicolegal work. The questionnaire was pretested prior to datacollection. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 25. Descriptive statistics and correlation analysis wereperformed. Ethical approval was given by letter number 7255PGMI/AMC dated 14-10-2024.Results: The mean age of participants was 26.4±1.7 years, with 55.6% males and 44.4% females. The meanknowledge score was 12.6±2.5 out of 20, skills score 8.4±1.9 out of 12, and attitude score 3.8±0.7 out of 5.Participants demonstrated relatively better attitudes but inadequate knowledge and skills, particularly inmedicolegal procedures, evidence collection, and court testimony. Significant positive correlations wereobserved between knowledge and skills (r = 0.65), knowledge and attitudes (r = 0.58), and skills and attitudes(r = 0.51) (p < 0.01).Conclusion: Recent medical graduates in Lahore exhibit insufficient knowledge and skills in medicolegalpractice despite relatively positive attitudes.
