A bibliometric analysis of global research on biofortification
View through CrossRef
This paper reviews global research priorities on biofortification using bibliometric analysis. The global literature on biofortification published between 2000–2021 was selected for the study. The search was carried out in the Web of Science database and analysed using VOS viewer and biblioshiny. The study identifies influential articles, authors, major research themes and organisations working on biofortification program. Over the years, significance of biofortification research has been increased as evident from the increase in the number of publications and citations. Analysis of co-occurrence network of author keywords suggests that researchers prefer to carry out studies on biofortification concerning maize, vitamin A and carotenoids. Broadley, Cakmak and White are the most influential authors having highest number of citations. The Cornell University, University of Nottingham and Sabanci University are the three major institutes working on biofortification with strongest influence and linkages with other organisations. The research papers from USA have higher number of citations followed by England, China and India. The research papers on biofortification are majorly placed in plant science and nutrition journals. This analysis will help the researchers to identify current research priorities and the future direction of research in the field of biofortification.
