President Barrack Obama Strategic Policy towards Pakistan: An Overview

The Obama administration after taking the office as the President of the United States of America in 2009, his presidency was prepared and determined to defeat the terrorist and terrorist organizations. He was focused in dismantling Al-Qaeda from Afghanistan, Pakistan and rest of the world. Therefore, his administration has faced many challenges and issues from Pakistan side. His administration knew that the actual fight in combating terrorism and extremism was in Pakistan. During his reign as president of the United States of America, Pakistan became the main focus of his foreign policy in fighting the war against terrorism. Therefore, for this purpose the Obama administration devised strategic policy known as Af-Pak strategy to have check and balance on the both countries. The administration of the Barrack Obama wanted to destroy and dismantle the terrorist camps, shelters and financing to the terrorist organization from Pakistan’s side. The fears were evident that the Taliban and Al-Qaeda could re-emerge if the screws were loosening on them. In order to achieve such goals and objective for his foreign policy the Obama administration used military, diplomatic and economic tools to control Pakistan in defeating the terrorist organizations. The Administration of Barrack Obama has made it clear to the international community and Pakistan that if Pakistan was unable to provide the desired support to his administration then he would act unilaterally and later on he did act unilaterally by challenging the sovereignty of Pakistan on several occasions. Furthermore, the relations of Pakistan and the United States of America under the first term of Obama presidency were not friendly the relations of the both countries were hostile after some incidents occurred during 2011. The government of Pakistan was constantly protesting to the government of the United States of America in the issues of its sovereignty. On the other side the administration of Barrack Obama was questioning Pakistan whether it was true ally of the US in the global war against terrorism. During the presidency of Obama he has launched deadly drone strikes in Pakistan in the ex-tribal belts of Pakistan, Operation Neptune Spear was conducted during his presidency, and Raymond Davis case took place during his administration. The Obama administration has seen many ups and downs in the relations of both Pakistan and United States of America. The theory of “Realism” has been applied to the research work which sees blatant realities and realistic approach to analyse the foreign policy of a country. Qualitative approach has been applied to dig out the striking aspects during the resaech work, books, journals and speeches has been studied to make the research work more formidable.
