Upaya Peningkatan Pengetahuan Penanganan BBLR dengan Metode Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC)

View through CrossRef
Low birth weight babies (LBW) often have problems compared to normal birth weight babies. Especially for LBW due to premature birth, the function of the body's organs is still unperfect, so it needs to get special treatment. Problems that are often experienced by LBW include difficulty maintaining body temperature due to: increased heat loss, lack of subcutaneous fat, and a large ratio of skin surface area to body weight. Efforts to manage LBW include incubators and Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC). The use of incubators causes mothers to be separated from their babies, the number is limited, and expensive. Meanwhile, KMC includes skin to skin contact, has the advantage of being able to meet the baby's touch needs as a stimulus for their development. The purpose of this activity is so that in the future pregnant women can do KMC for their babies, especially for LBW babies. Implementation method with health education and demonstrations. The media used are leaflets and KMC props. The activity was carried out in the Pregnant Women Class at the Gambirsari Health Center in Surakarta, with 10 pregnant women participating. The activity was held in two meetings during the pregnancy class, in December 2021 for increasing knowledge and January 2022 for evaluation. Evaluation results around 85% of mothers were able to answer questions about KMC and were able to demonstrate KMC. In conclusion, this activity ran smoothly and received a good response. Mothers know more about alternatives to handling LBW with KMC.

Description:

Mothers know more about alternatives to handling LBW with KMC.
