Japanese Phonological Interference by Indonesian Language Learners on Indonesian Vocabulary: A Case Study of Tiktoker Nanako

Native Japanese TikToker named Nanako experienced pronunciation errors when pronouncing Indonesian vocabulary. Based on this phenomenon, a study was conducted to investigate phonological interference, focusing on the types of phonological interference experienced. Therefore, the research problem of this study is the types of phonological interference of the TikToker Nanako. The research method used descriptive qualitative approach with listening and taking notes to 2 TikTok videos of Nanako. Then the data is explained descriptively to conclude. The theory used the theory of phonological interference from Weinreich. Based on this theory, 2 forms of phonological interference were found, such as sound changes and sound additions. The sound changes found were the consonant /n/ becoming /ŋ/ totaling 5 data, /l/ becoming /ɾ/ totaling 8 data, /si/ becoming /ʃi/ totaling 3 data. In addition, the addition of vowels /o/ and /ɯ/ totaling 1 data each. Therefore, speakers whose native language is Japanese can experience phonological interference.
