Two-piece cotton pencil skirt with geometric motifs

From two pieces of batiked cloth made sarong, with parang rusak motive. The parang motif is one of the so-called forbidden motifs. These motifs were by the sultans of Yogya and Solo prohibited for ordinary citizens to wear. Parang means (small) sword, and symbolizes power and growth (McCabe Elliot, 1984:68).
