Lecture course notes are one of the most important sources for clarifying the ori­gins of the development of a philosopher and a scholar in the humanities. Studying such materials allows us to understand how the thinker’s creative laboratory was formed. These materials are particularly significant for understanding Russian phi­losophy of the 19th century, during which the formation of metaphysical Russian language was taking place. In this context, the lecture course notes in philosophy, made by Nikolai Nikolaevich Strakhov during his studies at the Main Pedagogical Institute, are of great importance. A detailed analysis of these notes requires the re­searcher to delve into the context of the national intellectual tradition of that era, when literary criticism and philosophy still existed as a unified whole, and when the concept of sincerity was just beginning to enter the Russian intellectual the­saurus, demanding not only a rational but also a moral approach to understanding the surrounding reality. The path to philosophy that N.N. Strakhov took is particu­larly illustrative in this regard, as the thinker combined philosophical, pedagogical, and natural-scientific experiences in his education. However, perhaps the most im­portant aspect of this journey is revealed in his epistolary heritage, where sincerity extends beyond the word-concept and becomes a way of living in philosophy. Be­low, a preserved fragment of a student lecture recorded by N.N. Strakhov in 1849 from the Pushkin House in Saint Petersburg (IRLI RAS) is being published, in which the concept of the soul as a real existing subject is discussed.
