Peran Bakteri Wolbachia pada Patogenesis Onkoserkosis Monica Puspa Sari

AbstrakInfeksi dengan nematoda parasit Onchocerca volvulus yang ditularkan melalui gigitan lalat hitam Simulium, dihubungkan dengan terjadinya reaksi inflamasi pada kulit dan kornea,  dapat menyebabkan kebutaan. Kerusakan kornea yang terjadi dihasilkan dari respon inflamasi host akibat mikrofilaria yang mengalami degenerasi pada mata. Percobaan menggunakan tikus sebagai hewan coba dengan keratitis dilakukan untuk melihat respon imun dan inflamasi yang terjadi yang dihubungkan dengan onkoserkosis. Peran Wolbachia dalam perkembangan keratitis, mengindikasikan bahwa respon imun bawaan pada awalnya sangat penting dalam patogenesis onkoserkosis pada mata. Pemberian antibiotik selain untuk membunuh Wolbachia, juga sangat penting dalam menurunkan dan mencegah manifestasi klinis yang ditimbulkan. Kata kunci : Onchocerca volvulus, Wolbachia, onkoserkosis AbstractInfection with Onchocerca volvulus parasitic nematodes transmitted through the bite of the black fly Simulium, associated with inflammatory reactions in the skin and cornea, can lead to blindness. Corneal damage occurs resulting from the host inflammatory response due degenerating microfilariae in the eye. Experiments using mice as experimental animals with keratitis done to see the immune and  inflammatory response that occurs associated with Onchocerciasis. Role of Wolbachia in the development of keratitis indicate that the innate immune response in the beginning is very important in the pathogenesis of onchocerciasis on the eyes .
