Halobacterium

Halobacteriaceae
the family whose nomenclatural type is the genus
Halobacterium
.
The family
Halobacteriaceae
consists of 11 genera:
Halobacterium
(the type genus),
Haladaptatus
,
Halalkalicoccus
,
Halarchaeum
,
Haloarchaeobius
,
Halomarina
,
Halorubellus
,
Halorussus
,
Halovenus
,
Natronoarchaeum
, and
Salarchaeum
. All members of the family are neutrophilic or alkaliphilic extremely halophilic Archaea, mostly red‐pink pigmented and generally leading an aerobic life style. Before 2015, the
Halobacteriaceae
was the only family in the class
Halobacteria
. In 2015, the family was split into three orders and six families based on phylogenomic analyses.
