Determination of flavonoid content in Coleus amboinicus plant raw material
View through CrossRef
Background. Modern scientific research confirms the pharmacological potential of Coleus amboinicus. In particular, aqueous and alcoholic extracts of the plant demonstrate antimicrobial activity against pathogenic bacteria and fungi, as well as antioxidant properties, which makes them promising for the development of herbal remedies and cosmetics [4]. However, data on the quantitative content of key groups of biologically active substances, such as flavonoids, in extracts obtained using various solvents remain limited. In addition, the extraction efficiency of these compounds can vary significantly depending on the type of extractant, its polarity and physicochemical properties. Materials and methods. The object of the study was aqueous, aqueous-isopropyl (70 %) and aqueous-glycerol (50 %) extracts of Coleus amboinicus. The extraction process was carried out by the maceration method. The content of total flavonoids in Coleus amboinicus extracts was determined by the spectrophotometric method. Results. The sum of flavonoids in Coleus amboinicus extracts was determined. The sum of flavonoids was calculated in terms of cynaroside (luteolin-7-glycoside) for aqueous and glycerol extracts and quercetin (3.3) for isopropyl extract. Conclusions. The analysis of flavonoids showed that the highest amount is observed in the aqueous extract (0.071 %), the lowest in the isopropyl extract (0.033 %), and an intermediate value is noted in the glycerol extract (0,027 %).
Title: Determination of flavonoid content in Coleus amboinicus plant raw material
Description:
The sum of flavonoids was calculated in terms of cynaroside (luteolin-7-glycoside) for aqueous and glycerol extracts and quercetin (3.
3) for isopropyl extract.
Conclusions.
The analysis of flavonoids showed that the highest amount is observed in the aqueous extract (0.
071 %), the lowest in the isopropyl extract (0.
033 %), and an intermediate value is noted in the glycerol extract (0,027 %).
