Rhodian amphora stamps and Rhodian eponyms

Il existe des amphores à anses timbrées pour quasiment tous les éponymes de Rhodes de la période hellénistique. Leur séquence et leurs dates ont été récemment étudiées par G. Finkielsztejn qui a corrigé et affiné le procédé de Virginia Grace. L'étude épigraphique reliée aux découvertes résultant de l'étude des timbres confirme le fait que les éponymes correspondaient aux prêtres d'Hélios. L'arbitrage de Rhodes entre Samos et Priène que l'on situe habituellement entre 196 et 192 av. J.-C. ne précède pas mais suit de plusieurs années la décision de Manlius Vulso en 188. Parmi les éponymes que nous ne connaissons pas encore à partir des timbres mais uniquement d'après une inscription, figure celle concernant Autokrate "l'Aîné" en 190 ou en 189 av. J.-C.
