Figura ibeji per al culte als bessons

Considered descendents of the god thunder, among the Yoruba people twins are special beings who share a soul. When one of them dies, and believing that the sibling is in danger, an anthropomorphic effigy is made as a replacement. If both children die, a pair is commissioned. The figure is made in accordance with the instructions given by an officiant of Ifa divination worship and is given to the family so that the mother can devote daily attention to it, as if it were her real child.
