Multivariate Analysis of Ionomic and Metabolomic Signatures for Differentiation of Jasminum spp
View through CrossRef
Jasmine is one of the most widely cultivated crops, known for its extravagant flowers that emit their essence. Jasmine species such as Jasminum sambac and Jasminum trifoliatum have been granted the Geographical Indication (GI) tag in their prominent cultivation regions of India. Through comparing and contrasting the metabolite profile of jasmine flower absolute and the elemental composition of soil, leaves, and flowers of J. sambac, J. trifoliatum, J. grandiflorum, and J auriculatum, the intricate relationship of jasmine species was explored. In this study, ionomic profiling of 30 elements (Ag, Al, As, B, Ba, Be, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cs, Cu, Fe, Hg, K, Li, Mg, Mn, Mo, N, Na, Ni, P, Pb, Sb, Sn, Ti, Tl, V, Zn) ) from soil, leaf, and flower samples was performed using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Concurrently, concentrate from the flowers of each jasmine species were extracted through solvent extraction methods, followed by metabolomic profiling using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The resulting data were subjected to multivariate analysis for chemometric differentiation of Jasminum spp. and it was demonstrated that the ionome and metabolome profiles produce similar pattern of differentiation.
