Finding nemas

On the eve of its 50th anniversary, the Brazilian Society of Nematology (BSN) faces the challenge of the growing importance of nematodes for Brazilian agriculture. Our congresses now attract nearly 1,000 participants, reflecting the growth of the field. However, the lack of adequate training in universities is a problem, as many do not offer specific disciplines in Nematology, making investment in education from the early stages crucial. Considering this early education, the authors of the book “Finding Nemas,” my friend Claudio Marcelo, who played a fundamental role in my own journey in Nematology, and his daughter Ana Cecília, whom I saw being born, managed to translate the world of Agricultural Nematology in a subtle and accessible way for children. The detailed and skillfully created illustrations by Ana Cecília offer a technical insight that is both gentle and enjoyable, captivating not only the children but also everyone who works with nematodes. For those who know father and daughter, we had the privilege of witnessing in the narrative the involvement of a great researcher who had a significant impact on both of them, becoming a great friend who, unfortunately, left us prematurely. I confess that I was enchanted by this book from the moment it was presented to me. It is an honour, during my tenure at BSN, to participate in and support this initiative that, I am sure, will captivate all readers. I wish everyone a great read and hope that the nematodes represented here inspire you to continue exploring this fascinating universe!
