Creating a Pilot Welcome Programme to Support the Transition from Student Midwife to Midwife

The transition from student midwife to midwife is an exciting and sometimes anxious time. The need for a robust inclusive preceptorship and induction programme has been highlighted as essential in supporting this transition, yet there is currently no recognised ‘best practice’ model for this. This article discusses the creation of a pilot Welcome Programme to support student midwives during this transition period and into their new role as midwives.
