ALİ ŞİR NEVÂYÎ’DE YAŞLILIK VE GENÇLİK DÜŞÜNCESİ

Nations have great poets and they, with these poets, continue their traditions and arrange their future. Ali Shir Nevāyî, who had planted the Turkish flag on the bastions of the fifteenth century, is one of the important poets and thinkers of Turkish literature in terms of the continuation of the tradition and establishment of the future. His success in poetry not only depends on his perfection but also on his deepness in meanings, simplicity, and originality in conveying his thoughts. First of all, he blended the human heritage of Sufism with Turkish thought and was able to put forward an understanding of people who could be an example for those who came after him. The concept of the old age and youth, which are periods of human life, is also at the top of the issues that he frequently touches upon with the idea of finding this human being. Nevāyî sees youth as an important period that should be valued. According to him, youth should not be wasted. Since old age is considered a period of maturity with the change of physical characteristics, worship and piety, are also perceived as years of distancing from people. Nevāyî is a poet who has been able to reflect the wrong aspects of the society, he makes these topics as a subject of criticism in his poems. In his poems, situations such as the emulation of the elderly to the young and the desire to be with them, which were common in his time, were criticized with original metaphors and analogies, and the funny situations of the elderly who did not behave appropriately were also discussed. In this study, the examples identified in Nevāyî's works and his view of youth and old age will be examined by considering them.
