OLIVIA RODRIGO’S SOUR: HIGHLIGHTING METAPHORICAL TYPES AND FUNCTIONS

This research discusses “OLIVIA RODRIGO’S SOUR: HIGHLIGHTING METAPHORICAL TYPES AND FUNCTIONS.” This study aims to explore and describe the use of metaphors in Olivia Rodrigo's ‘SOUR’ album, focusing on their representation and interpretation by listeners. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection involves listening to the SOUR album on Spotify, identifying metaphorical lyrics, and classifying the type and function. The types of metaphors are analyzed based on Lakoff and Johnson's theory, while the functions of metaphors are analyzed using the theory by Muzaffarovna and Usmonovna. The findings reveal 25 instances of metaphors, categorized into three main types: ontological metaphors (62%), structural metaphors (23%), and orientational metaphors (15%). The study also identifies three functions of metaphors in Olivia Rodrigo’s lyrics: psychological (38%), aesthetic (31%), and cognitive (31%). Based on the data found, ontological metaphors are the most frequently used type, and the psychological function is the most dominant metaphor function.
