Thematic Analysis of Management Practices of Sri Lankan Women Entrepreneurs Towards Empowerment

This paper views and examines various management practices used by Sri Lankan women entrepreneurs with a thematic analysis and the impact created up on the empowerment of the women of the country. As these women experience enlightenment, empowerment and emancipation through success in business, they may identify with or feel different to the values of the male dominated Sri Lankan culture and therefore successful women entrepreneurs, in effect, may need to take on or adopt values of the dominant male counterpart to remain successful in business. There may be impediments or inhibitors existing that restrict business growth and subsequent success to the woman entrepreneur. Are there different management practices used by the women entrepreneurs of Sri Lanka? Have the women entrepreneurs made an impact on the development of Sri Lanka? What is the importance of women entrepreneurship on empowering females in Sri Lanka? These were the questions that this research paper attempted to answer. In summary the outcomes identify that the intrinsic motivator for women entrepreneurs is to provide for their family, to give their children a better life than what they experienced, and to escape the entrapments of poverty. The study has not only identified the unique management practices used by the women entrepreneurs of Sri Lanka but has found the various ways the women are empowered through the women entrepreneurship and how it affects the development of Sri Lanka.
