Mary and Elisabeth (Visitation)

View through Europeana Collections
Wooden cut of Käthe Kollwitz (1867-1945) from 1929. Two women, one elderly and one younger are shown. Both are pregnant. The younger turns to the elderly somewhat anxiously but trustfully. She puts her arm on her stomach in a protective way around her and her right hand. She seems to be telling her something in the ear. Both against a dark background that captures them like a protective space. Signed under picture on the right with “Käthe Kollwitz.”
