Eesti Haridusteaduste Ajakirja seekordne erinumber keskendub õppekavateooria ja -praktika ning õppekava arendamise ja rakendamise küsimustele. Käsitlemist leiavad nii õppekava üldprobleemid ja arengulugu kui ka teemad, mis on seotud konkreetsete ainevaldkondade või erialade õppekavadega. Õppekava kui kooli õppetööd enim reguleeriv dokument on rohkem kui sajandi vältel olnud oluline uurimisvaldkond paljudes maades, sealhulgas Eestis. Erinumbris avatakse nii üldhariduskooli kui kõrghariduse õppekava küsimusi, esindatud on lai valik haridusasutusi Eestist ja Soomest. Pidevalt muutuv hariduselu eeldab õppekava uurijatelt ühtaegu nii rahvusvahelisel tasemel teadustööd kui igapäevast kursisolekut kodumaise hariduspraktikaga. Erinumbris põimuvad ajalugu, olevik ja tulevik, samuti õppekavauuringutele eripärane ning haridusmõtlemisele üldomane.
