The effectiveness of the intranasal recombinant interferon alpha-2b medicine in pregnant women and newborns of the Republic of Mordovia
View through CrossRef
Objective. To study the effectiveness of the interferon-based medicine Grippferon® for the prevention of acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) in pregnant women and newborn children. Patients and methods. A non-randomised single-centre prospective cohort study was conducted for 6 months, which included a total of 154 pregnant women and 80 newborn children. Participants were divided into 2 groups – main and control. Patients were under the supervision of Saransk city medical organisations. During the study the intranasal recombinant interferon alpha-2b-based medicine Grippferon® (nasal drops and spray) was used in the main groups. Results. No cases of ARVI were observed among newborns of both groups. During preventive use of the medicine Grippferon® in pregnant women (I, II and III trimesters) a significant reduction in the frequency and severity of ARVI was revealed in main groups compared to the control ones. There were no cases of adverse events among the study participants. Conclusion. The study showed a high effectiveness of the intranasal recombinant interferon α-2b-based medicine Grippferon® in groups of pregnant women for the prevention of ARVI. There is a need for further long-term and large-scale studies in newborns. In all main groups the safety of the given medicine was observed.
