The Shattered Mirror : Trauma, Psychic Fragmentation and the Genesis of Absurdist Silence

View through CrossRef
This paper tries to explore the symbiotic relationship between the traumatic memory and the genesis of Absurdist Consciousness as a result of traumatic memory. As We know that the World War II left the whole world devastated but the war also left the human psyche shocked and traumatized for generations. Therefore I have tried to argue that the features of absurdist literature are not mere choice of styles by authors but clinical expression of distorted symptoms in relation to Freudian Psychoanalysis. By closely examining the works like Waiting for Godot (1952) by Samuel Beckett, The Bald Soprano (1954) by Eugene Ionesco, Myth of Sisyphus (1942) by Albert Camus, this paper tries to investigate how traumatic memories change behavioural psychology, therefore individual exhibits distorted behaviour and therefore faces existential crisis. Moreover, this paper also tries to investigate how meaninglessness, a prominent feature of absurdist literature emerges from from traumatic memories, how trauma, split psychology and behavioural changes from trauma impact identity and how silence, repetitiveness/circularity, failure of communication which are other features of absurdist literature, are nothing except the results of internal conflict and Split psychology. At last, moving beyond the main question regarding the source of absurdity silence, this paper also proposes solutions through the lens of Blue Humanities and discusses how the spontaneity of coastal life amidst all the disruptions and misfortunes can be an antidote to absurdist symptoms and in order to solidify my argument I have taken The Old Man and the Sea (1952) by Ernest Hemingway as a case study.

Description:
