IMPROVED LOW-DOSE CT-IMAGE QUALITY WITH ITERATIVE RECONSTRUCTION ALGORITHMS

View through CrossRef
Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) is widely applied to limit the harmful effects of radiation on patients, especially those who need multiple CT follow-up. However, LDCT may raise concern about diagnostic image quality. Iterative reconstruction algorithm (IR) was released and developed as a competitive tool among various vendors to improve LDCT image quality. The efficiency of using IR in combination with LDCT has been published abundantly in the last two decades. The conjunction can be reduced the radiation dose by up to 80% compared to the standard protocol. Furthermore, image quality is sufficient for diagnosis. This article introduces an overview of the definition and values of IR in LDCT. Key words: Iterative reconstruction algorithms (IR), Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT).
