जैसाकि हम सभी जानते हैं कि राष्ट्रपिता महात्मा गाँधी जी ने भारत को ब्रिटिश औपनिवेशिक शक्तियों से मुक्त कराने में अत्यंत महत्त्वपूर्ण योगदान दिया है जिसे कभी भी भुलाया नहीं जा सकता है। पश्चिमी अर्थशास्त्रियों ने अर्थव्यवस्था के संचालन से संबंधित मौद्रिक एवं भौतिकतावादी अर्थशास्त्र की रचना की वहीं गाँधी जी ने सभी प्राणियों के कल्याण हेतु तथा कुशल राजसंचालन से संबंधित आध्यात्मिक तथा नैतिकतापूर्ण अर्थशास्त्र की रचना की जो समस्त वर्ग के लोगों, पूँजीपतियों तथा देश की आर्थिक क्रियाओं के कुशल संचालन के लिए आज भी प्रासंगिक है। इस लेख के माध्यम से गाँधी जी के आर्थिक विचारों पर प्रकाश डाला गया है जो यह बताता है कि वर्तमान युग में भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था को सुदृढ़, शक्तिशाली व आत्मनिर्भर बनाने में इन विचारों की भूमिका कितनी महत्त्वपूर्ण है।
