A comparative clinical study to evaluate the efficacy of Hanu Basthi and Hanu Pichu with Ksheerabala Taila in Hanu Sandhigata Vata w.s.r. to TMJ Osteoarthritis
View through CrossRef
Osteoarthritis, is a degenerative condition of joint, in which the tissues in the joint break down over time and is more common in older people. People with osteoarthritis usually have joint pain and, after rest or inactivity, stiffness as main symptom. It is characterised by chronic degeneration of various hard and soft tissues around all joints. It can also affect the Tempero-mandibular joint and called as TMJ osteoarthritis. The non-dental causes of oral pain closely related to Tempero-mandibular disorder. So TMJ osteoarthritis can be correlated to the Hanu Sandhigata Vata due to the similarities in the symptoms of both. It is estimated that 22-29% of people in India have osteoarthritis. Radiological and autopsy surveys show a steady rise in degenerative changes in joints from the age of 30. By the age of 65, 80% of people have some radiographic evidence of osteoarthritis, although only 25% may have symptoms. In the case of TMJ osteoarthritis, it begins early and has been observed in over 20% of individuals over the age of 20 years and 40% of patients over 40 years of age. It affects both sexes with higher prevalence in women. As this is a new innovative topic and not much studies are conducted on the topic TMJ osteoarthritis, or Hanu Sandhigata Vata, so this study has been conducted.
