The textbook highlights current issues in lexical semantics and is both theory- and practice-oriented. The aim of the textbook is to systematize data, knowledge and research in the field of semantics, including its cognitive and neuropsychological
varieties. The author focuses on fundamental issues of lexical semantics, such as theories and types of meaning, methods of semantic analysis, concepts and their varieties, as well as the relationship between conceptual structures and lexical items. The book also examines cognitive metaphor, metonymy, and metaphtonymy as ways of representing knowledge in language and as foundational principles of thought. A separate chapter is devoted to formal semantics as an alternative approach to studying the meanings of linguistic signs.
