Chronic neuroinfections in children: etiology, pathogenesis and clinical syndromes

View through CrossRef
This paper provides an overview of domestic and foreign sources, as well as our own data on the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical-laboratory, and radiological manifestations of nervous system damage in chronic neuroinfections in children. The features of individual chronic neuroinfections are described: subacute sclerosing panencephalitis, neuroborreliosis, tick-borne encephalitis, and neurocysticercosis. The importance of primary and secondary causes of immune response disorders in the pathogenesis of chronic course and the validity of using antiviral and immunomodulatory drugs, as well as those with a complex pathogenetic effect, are demonstrated. In modern conditions, preference in the treatment of chronic neuroinfections is given to domestic drugs such as meglumine acridon acetate (cycloferon), recombinant interferon α2β (viferon), and cytoflavin, the effectiveness of which has been proven by numerous studies. Key words: chronic neuroinfections, children, etiology, pathogenesis, clinical syndromes, cycloferon, cytoflavin
