Myths in the history of the USA

The monograph is a comprehensive analysis of the mechanisms of mythologization of key stages in the history of the United States. She consistently examines the key myths that have become the foundation of the national identity of the United States. The study covers two centuries: from the origins of national mythology in the era of the Revolution through the central narratives of the 19th century — "Jacksonian democracy", the ideology of the slave—owning South, interpretations of the Civil War and Reconstruction - to the imperial myth of the Spanish-American War of 1898. Special attention is paid to the phenomenon of the "Lost Cause" and its relevance in our days. The authors analyze myths as powerful propaganda weapons, in particular, myths that cover up the romantic aura of the pre-war South and justify and veil the brutality of slavery.
