Building view. South view of Stolzenfels Castle on the Rhine. The military building rises at a height in the left half of the picture. The Rhine flows to the right in the valley. The reconstruction of the castle of Stolzenfel by Friedrich Wilhelm IV after Schinkel’s designs, together with the completion of the Cologne Cathedral, was one of the highlights of the construction work under the Prussian king. The building was built in 1836, the inauguration ceremony took place on September 14, 1842, but most of the buildings were not completed until 1846.
