Avainsanat: digitaalinen journalismi, video, Tiktok, Yleisradio, nuoret“What do you think about this?” – Yle’s journalism on the video sharing platform TikTokIn recent years, the short-form video sharing platform TikTok has become an important platform not only for entertainment but also for news and societally relevant content. This study examines what kind of journalistic content is produced on TikTok by Yleisradio, the Finnish publicly funded broadcasting company. TikTok was chosen for the study because of its focus on digitally distributed video content, which is also defined as a strategic priority for Yle. This topic is important to study because the platform’s popularity as a source of journalism continues to grow, especially among younger age groups. The research data consists of the 100 most popular videos collected from the accounts Yle Uutiset, Yle Mix, Yle Kioski eduskunnassa, and Yle Kioski Popup. We first describe the profiles of the accounts by looking at how distinctive the video content of each account is and what their target audiences are. We then analyse the videos published on these accounts by focusing on their subject matter, the people featured in the videos, the way topics are presented, and how they address and engage audiences. We also analyse how multimodality as well as the inherent features and affordances of the platform are harnessed by Yle to convey meaningful information, perspectives, and emotions. Our analysis shows that the content produced by Yle on TikTok is significantly more entertainment-focused and experimental than traditional broadcast and online journalism. By adapting to the affordances of the Tiktok platform these videos end up challenging the traditional values and norms of journalism in many ways. Keywords: digital journalism, video, TikTok, Yleisradio, youth
