View through Europeana Collections
In imagne is the Curteni household, Vaslui county dating from 1844, transferred to the Village Museum in 1959. It includes the house, the wine cellar and the cage for hens. The house with the walls made of burnt brick, an exception to the technique used in the area at that time, is developed in symmetrical depth, with a median hall and two rooms on either side. With a loose porch at the main facade, with four wooden pillars, the house is erected on the stone foundation. The roof, with its eaves clogged to the main facade, has a reed covering, made of local technique, “la cheptene” or "in scales, and a hull made by filling the last row of reeds. The wine cellar, built of stone connected with earth, has the structure of semi-buried hulls, with massive wood elements for the snake and reed covers. The bird bend, made of plaiting on the woods glued with ground and conical reed roof, is round in shape. The fence of the household, made of hazelnut braid, on pole skeleton, is covered with straw.
