Banking industry is one of the basic instruments of economic growth. It should be on a sound footing as it constitutes an important link in various socio-economic activities. A strong banking sector is important for a flourishing economy. The failure of the banking sector in any country may have an adverse impact on other sectors. In India, non- performing assets (NPAs), are one of the major concerns in the financial system in general and banking sector in particular. The assets which do not perform any role in getting profit are called NPAs. The more the NPAs the lower the performance of any financial institution. The issue of NPAs has been discussed at length all over the globe. The NPAs not only affect the organization, but also the entire economy of any country. An attempt is made in this article to review the NPAs of 2 regional rural banks (RRBs) in Maharashtra State i.e. Maharashtra Gramin Bank (MGB) and Vidharbha Konkan Gramin Bank (VKGB).
