The Predictive Role of Guilty and Fear-of-Failure Daydreaming in Self-Alienation and Acceptance of External Influence

The purpose of current study was to explore relationship between maladaptive features of daydreaming; Guilt and Fearful Daydreaming, with counterproductive factors of authenticity; Self alienation and accepting external influence. With this goal, 500 young adults aged between 18 years to 25 years were asked to be part of our survey study. After obtaining their consent they were provided with demographic form and survey form which included Short Imaginal Processing Inventory (Huba, Aneshensel, & Singer, 1981) and The Authenticity Scale (Wood et al, 2008). The results were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 version. Differential statistics to evaluate demographic information of data were used along with Regression analysis to investigate the relationship between our variables. The study showed that Guilt and fearful daydreaming share a significant relationship with both, Self-alienation (R² = .071, β = .26, p < .001) and Acceptance of external influence (R² = .096, β = .31, p < .001). With valuable results, this study will serve as an integral part of psychological research and provides beneficial insights into the dark and dysfunctional effects of daydreaming on developing self.
