Comparison of Diacerein with Collagen Active Peptides for The Treatment of Knee Osteoarthritis
View through CrossRef
Objective: To compare the effectiveness of Diacerein and Collagen Active Peptides in the treatment of KneeOsteoarthritis (OA), focusing on pain reduction, joint function improvement, and overall quality of lifeenhancement.Material and Methods: This research was conducted as an observational cohort study. approved by theFaculty Research Committee and Ethical Review Committee (FRC/BUMDC/Phar/120 and ERC 64/2021) ofBahria University Medical & Dental College (BUMDC), and carried out at a tertiary care hospital calledNational Medical , Karachi, from about six months from 2020 to 2021. A total of 110 knee osteoarthritispatients were divided into three groups: Diacerein (37 patients, anti-inflammatory & cartilage protection),Collagen Active Peptides (37 patients, cartilage repair & joint health), and NSAIDs (Diclofenac Potassium)(36 patients, standard pain management. Treatment effectiveness was assessed at the 6th and 12th weeksusing the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for pain and joint function evaluation. Upon securing well-informedconsent, patients were observed for changes in basic biophysical parameters and outcomes from labinvestigations conducted before and after the treatment periodResults: The Collagen Active Peptides group showed significant pain reduction and improved joint function, with highly significant VAS score improvements at both the 6th and 12th weeks (p < 0.001). Diacereinshowed moderate improvements, while NSAIDs primarily managed pain without enhancing joint mobility. Conclusion: Collagen Active Peptides were more effective than Diacerein and NSAIDs in reducing pain, decreasing joint stiffness, and improving functional mobility in knee osteoarthritis patients.Keyword: Collagen Active Peptides, Diacerein, Visual Analogue ScoreHow to cite: Mansoor M, Zaidi HI, Farooqui R, Zafar AHS, Rehman S, Sayyar TH.
