Chōōrō Kuniyoshiga Ch様様様様 ChChKuniyoshi’s series with comparisons between the 54 chapters of the Genji novel (Genji monogatari Ch様 in the form of poems on a scroll) and historical and legendary persons of Japan. The scroll above with a poem from the second chapter “Hahakigi Die” of the Genji novel. Next to it a tree (broom (?)). The picture shows the famous character Kuzunoha Das の Das, a fox spirit. After saving a fox in front of a hunting lot, Abe no Yasuna 様, he meets a pretty young woman he marries and gives birth to a son. After a while she dies or leaves him. Abe learns that she is the rescued female. Here Kuzunoha behind a wall shade. The shadow shows her true being as fox (-spirit). Shadows and mirror images always show the true nature of a person in Japanese legends and can thus expose demons and ghosts. In front of the umbrella, the sleeping child. Full moon night.
