Speaking is gold? Modalities of internal whistleblowing in an insurance context. This paper links internal whistleblowing procedures to insurance for corporate organisations and explores the feasibility of a premium discount. Whistleblowing, insurance and corporate governance can be problematised through the notion of asymmetry of information. The story justifying a premium discount for corporations that implement a whistleblowing procedure is that if whistleblowing procedures can reduce the asymmetry of information, then insurers can offer premium discounts because the chances that the risks will realise themselves become smaller. The paper identifies the characteristics of a whistleblowing procedure that would sustain the assumptions of that story. The findings are that in the limit, the assumptions dictate a whistleblowing procedure which results in new risks and which is ethically undesirable. However, approximating conditions might suffice. Some suggestions for segmentation are made.
