Exodus of the Plagues and Exodus of Moses

Recent discoveries have made it possible to examine the Hebrew Exodus from Egypt with multiple lenses in addition to the account available in The Five Books of Moses – Torah. A cluster of evidence surrounds 1550 BCE. At that time, we have the accounts of or about Pharaohs Seqenenre Ta’s II, Kamose, Ahmose, and Hatshepsut; mummies; a volcanic eruption’s devastation; and Manetho. Then around 1200 BCE, in another cluster, we have the Ramesside counter-revolution against the Akhenaten forces; records of Hebrew (Apiru) slaves; records of an Egyptian prince with undocumented birth who ran afoul of pharaoh and who was a party to legal proceeding regarding a slave master; and remains of a Tent of Meeting in the Negev. We conclude that the Exodus did take place, but that the Bible combines two instances of exodus for its story.
